7th Latin American Space Challenge
Overview
Overview
The 7th Space Challenge will be composed of three challenges: the Rocket Challenge, the Satellite Challenge, and the brand-new Lander Challenge. The event will take place in the Sugarcane Launch Range, region of Iacanga, near São Paulo city in Brazil. The main objective of the event is to maximize missions with operational satellites and experimental rockets in 2026.
The mission categories of the Rocket Challenge are listed according to the target apogee and propulsion system used by the selected experimental rocket project:
500 meters apogee with a solid rocket propulsion system;
1,000 meters apogee with solid rocket propulsion system;
3,000 meters apogee with solid rocket propulsion system; or
Target AGL apogee with hybrid or liquid rocket propulsion system.
The Satellite Challenge was created in 2020 with different categories based on the satellite project form-factor. The goal of the challenge is to promote the development of functional payloads for future space missions.
PocketQube or CanSat satellite project; or
CubeSat satellite project.
Teams participating in both Rocket ans Satellite Challenge may earn bonus points for completing a full/complete mission.
The brand-new Lander Challenge is a long-term technical initiative structured for missions focused on the development of self-landing vehicles. The challenge has two categories:
Reusable Launch System (RLS) project; or
Planetary Lander (Moon or Mars) project
The challenge is structured around five major milestones to be achieved within a period of up to five years, depending on the mission’s development progress.
The official patch for the 2026 LASC — 7th Space Challenge draws inspiration from the event’s historic visual identity, reimagined in a triangular format. This shape symbolizes robustness, reliability, and balance, as the triangle is the simplest structurally stable geometric form. The sky, rendered in shades of violet, commemorates the sunset of the final day of last year's event at the Sugarcane Launch Range, when violet tones covered the sky of Iacanga.
Against this backdrop, stars are featured alongside the Crux constellation and a satellite, representing the Satellite Challenge. In the green sugarcane fields, abundant in the region, a lander is positioned among the crops, symbolizing the introduction of the Lander Challenge. Finally, the event’s iconic rocket is depicted at liftoff, representing progress and the pursuit of space. Its plume subtly forms the number seven, in reference to the seventh edition of the event.
